Teacher of the year
Mainland High School is proud to announce that Mrs. Ella Godbee has been chosen as Teacher of the Year for 2009-2010. Mrs. Godbee graduated from the University of Findlay in Ohio and has taught reading at Mainland for the past13 years. She currently serves as the Reading Department Chair as well as the School Advisory Council Co-Chair.
Mrs. Godbee inspires students and parents, and teaches them to believe that every child has the capacity to read for success. She inspires her students to read for pleasure and achieve academically. Her knowledge of effective classroom management and instructional practices is illustrated in the high achievement gains of her students. She is a mentor to all teachers in delivering a positive message to struggling students. Her classroom successes affect the entire culture of Mainland High School.
Mainland is truly fortunate to have a caring teacher of such a high caliber as Ella Godbee. Included in the many contributions that Mrs. Godbee has made are:
School based:
- Formed “Bookaneers” Book Club
- Offers summer practice in reading that prepares students for FCAT
- Responsible for high learning gains in reading
- Co-Chair of School Advisory Council
- Reading Department Chairperson
- PRIDE program
Community based:
- Organized neighborhood summer reading camps for elementary students
- Promotes literacy through local PTA’s
- Free reading tutoring
- Challenger Sports League (special needs children) volunteer
- Active PTA member at Pathways Elementary
- School Advisory Council member at Hinson Middle School
- Band Parent Officer at Hinson Middle School
- Team administrator for the Ormond Beach Golden Spikes Baseball Team.
