Academy of Simulation and Robotic Technology
In Cooperation with the Advanced Technology College , we have added the Academy of Simulation and Robotics Technology. This is a two year advanced curriculum targeting students who are interested in the fields utilizing comp uters, simulation, robotics, or engineering. After two years at Mainland the students will transfer to the ATC to complete coursework geared specifically towards their major, to finish their high school credits while earning an A.S. degree.
ASR is a new academy. Our freshmen course load typically consists of Honors level courses in English, Algebra II, Geometry, Biology, World History, Physics, and Principles of Engineering. English, mathematics, Physics, and principals of Engineering integrate for Academy projects in the areas of Physics and design. During their sophomore year, students will continue on an accelerated track in Math, Science and Engineering, as well as taking Computer Programming.
While ASR is too new to have garnered any awards, we have events planned that will certainly create the opportunity for such accruement. Currently our students are working on building auto speakers. The assignment is to design a car interior and through a study waves determine the placement of the speakers for optimum sound. Students are designing three different types of speakers and must give a presentation of their findings. Later this spring, we will be competing in the robotics Botball competition. Further events include field trips and guest speakers to expose our students to the people and professions who work in fields related to the academy curriculum.
Admission to the academy is based on interest, grades, and test scores. The students are expected to take a rigorous curriculum, maintain superior grades, and, through their work contribute to the growth of the academy.
