Welcome to asi/asm
Mainland High School is proud to offer an academy for students with career interest that require a high level of knowledge in science and mathematics. This school-within-a-school integrates language arts, technology, sciences, vocational exploration, and research into a rigorous academic program. Students conduct research by gathering and analyzing data and by conducting studies, job shadowing, and internships will enrich classroom experiences.
Students will be expected to select electives directly related to their career interests.
• Biology for the 21st century with an emphasis on molecular biology, DNA technology, and ecology. Students actively learn gel electrophoresis, scientific imaging, and image processing.
• Physics is a web-enhanced course allowing students to access material at home. Students compete in the Physics Olympics annually at Daytona State College, use computer interface Personal Science Lab probeware, and digital video analysis.
• Chemistry is a lab-based course in which data collected is used as a basis for formula writing, stoichiometry, acid-based/solution chemistry, and gas laws. Calculator based lab units (CBL’s) are used for accurate data collection.
• Environmental Science includes a study of pollution, conservation, environmental planning and policy, public land usages, population dynamics and major forms of energy through classroom discussions, labs, and field studies.
