Welcome to Mainland High School

On Wednesday, February 3, 2010, the Volusia County School District will host its 3rd Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day Celebration.  The 3:00pm – 6:00pm celebration will be held at Mainland High School and will include a keynote address by Sara McLarty, professional triathlete and Deland High School graduate.  Sara racked up 15 NCAA all-American awards while attending the University of Florida, where she graduated with honors and a degree in Telecommunications.  She is currently a champion member of the United States Triathlon National Team.

The event will also feature special guest speaker, Bridgette Gordon, Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for Georgia State University Women’s Basketball team.  Ms. Gordon, who is also a graduate of Deland High School, led the University of Tennessee girls’ basketball team to two NCAA titles and was a member of the 1988 Olympics WNBA gold medal team.

Students will be able to meet and obtain autographs from these dynamic and inspirational speakers, participate in interactive sports stations, speak with athletic representatives from colleges & universities; acknowledge outstanding Volusia County female athletes.  There will be free food & drinks and live entertainment by the Heartbeat Boys!  Registration is open to all Volusia County middle and high school girls.  You may pick up a registration form & permission slip from your P.E. coaches or Coach Toth. There is limited seating and December 18, 2009  is the deadline to return your completed registration form.
